The solution to the “NOT THAT deflection of the transverse” beam.

A direct continuation of the note “The deviation is transverse, BUT NOT THAT!” dated February 28, 2026.

In it, I “explained” the mysterious and persistently observed deviation of the laser beam and its “satellites” reflected from the smooth surface of the glass and reflected directly from the mirror layer and refracted by thick glass.

But “this explanation” turned out to be fundamentally WRONG!

The entrainment of a light wave or light quanta by the medium, the glass of a mirror, (as in the experiments of Fizeau and Airy with water) does not PLAY any role in these changes of the picture on the screen!

I was convinced of this thanks to a successful experiment and an accident discovered only yesterday. The experiment consisted in the fact that I did not move the “optical system” at all for several days and the temperature in the room practically did not change. The red dots also remained WITHOUT any significant changes! But because of the rotation of the Earth around its axis, the system had to take different positions with respect to the Earth’s velocity vector in orbit. Sometimes the Earth rotated so that the course of the rays was parallel to this vector, sometimes transverse, sometimes at a certain angle to it!

Nothing noticeable WAS HAPPENING!

But all I had to do was move the system (very carefully, without touching the mirrors at all!!!), the picture on the screen changed noticeably and very significantly. Not only did the dots shift, but some became brighter, others disappeared, became splitted and more or less “satellites” of one central point appeared…

Moreover, this happened WITHOUT regard to the angle of rotation!

Why?

The fact is that, wanting to influence the position of the “parallel” mirrors as little as possible, I rotated the system by touching the ball bearing itself and thereby turning the system. And suddenly I noticed that the SLIGHTEST, lightest touch of my finger on the bearing plate immediately slightly changed the picture on the screen!

It was a happy accident that refuted my incorrect assumption on February 28th about the entrainment of light with the substance of mirrors.

The large circle of the bearing base, on which I put the mirror system with a laser, had an almost imperceptible CLEARANCE!!! And at the slightest touch, the relative position of the mirrors, due to their weight distributed on the upper plate of the support, changed by fractions of a millimeter, perhaps even by a hundred or several tens of microns.

This immediately manifested itself in the form of shifts of the repeatedly reflected rays, which, of course, GREATLY changed the picture of the dots on the screen!

This is the correct explanation for the displacement of points during rotation (more precisely, any movement of the system) relative to the vertical axis!

You can use this effect to create very accurate scales!
