Fate, which has sweated…
About disobedience to fate.
Volentem ducunt fata, nolentem – trahunt.
Fate leads the willing, the stubborn – drags!
A fate that has grown hot from the dragging efforts.
In fact, this Latin proverb is an order of obedient obedience to fate.
Like, you can’t trample on FATE!
Therefore, in my opinion, this phrase should be translated as follows:
Fate leads the OBEDIENT, and drags the disobedient.
But, it turns out, there are people who so stubbornly resist this “dragging” that “fate”, sweating and sweating from the efforts, leaves the stubborn man alone and switches to more OBEDIENT to her whims, whose name is “Legion”.
(I first read the word “Sweated” as a teenager in the brilliant novel by Ilf and Petrov “The Golden Calf”: “THE WINTER CROPS GOT UP SO FAR…”
I immediately found a whole series of semantic shades of this word in the dictionary.)
In Frederick Levet’s talented operetta “My Fair Lady”, created in 1956 based on Bernard Shaw’s comedy “Pygmalion”, more precisely, in its film adaptation with Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn, Professor Higgins does an aging trick with his student, which, according to ancient legends, was used, it seems, by Demosthenes, who suffered from tongue-tied. He took a small pebble in his mouth on the seashore and with a mouth full of pebbles, forced himself to pronounce the words clearly and articulately! ARTICULATE!
And he still defeated FATE!!! He became a politician and a famous speaker!
The famous figure skater Irina Rodnina suffered from some physical limitations in childhood, but, nevertheless, she fought HARD against this disease and became a long-term champion (European, World and Olympic) in pair figure skating!
I believe that I would not be mistaken if I said that there are few, but also many, such “stubborn people” who did not submit to fate, but stubbornly fought and WON against it.
Napoleon Bonaparte was also despised by many people around him for his small stature, and he, despite constant ridicule and malicious jokes in his address (and, perhaps, thanks to them!!!) overcame all the abominations of fate and became a famous commander and statesman.
Willpower and firmness of character are integral components of a realized, fulfilled, FULFILLED talent.
Just as characterless in the presence of natural abilities, often outstanding, leads only to a “puff”, not even to a blank shot, but to a pathetic squeak, unheard and unnoticed by anyone. Simply, at least for himself, who did not manifest himself in any way!
Therefore, fate MUST BE FOUGHT, even when A SOBER AND COMPLETELY RATIONAL ASSESSMENT of the possibility of victory by the MIND seems very unlikely, ephemeral, even utopian!
Let fate work hard and languish in its vile dragging of you in the direction desired for it and let it, having sweated from excessive efforts, finally gives you freedom and THUS you will DEFEAT it!!
