I have written more than once about the possible causes of senile dementia (“Dementia Senilis”).
And I pointed out that (in my opinion) it begins in childhood, when a child learns the difference between honest and difficult thinking, which usually sends annoying signals to the Center of Displeasure in the corpus amygdalae, and an easy and pleasant substitute for it (thinking).
According to the principle: Think like everyone else, like a herd!
I have also explained more than once the difference between real thinking and labelling.
Externally, they are similar in the form of the process. Practically indistinguishable. The difference IS NOT in the process itself, but in the MOTIVATION, in the PRESET:
Does the person like this process or is it UNPLEASANT, that is, the signals just mentioned to the Center of Displeasure.
If you LIKE this process, a person THINKS, strains his thinking, often struggles for a long time to solve a certain problem – it seems to be a “hard labor”!
BUT IT’S STILL ENJOYABLE, REGARDLESS OF THE RESULT!
Of course, if you are solving a problem that you have been struggling and “tormented” for a long time, this is an extra gift to the Pleasure Center. But, again, you LIKE THE PROCESS ITSELF!
If, like all herd creatures, this process causes disgust and unpleasant feelings, then, naturally, a person tries to get rid of them, as if from some kind of pain.
Then LABELLING comes on the scene, that is, quickly and easily, instead of difficult attempts to solve it honestly, a certain label is immediately attached, which does not solve it in any way and usually has nothing to do with it.
And that’s it!
The Pleasure Center receives a PLEASANT and sweet relaxing signal: The problem is SOLVED!!!
I hope that (once again) I have clarified what the difference is?
Now let’s deal with the essence of the question. So, the human brain has been accustomed to “surrogate” since childhood. This means that certain chains of neurons arise in the brain, CHARACTERIZING a CERTAIN WAY of THINKING, and they become DOMINANT from frequent use. And the dominant circuits of our brain DO NOT TOLERATE competitors. THEY send BLOCKING signals to synapses (contacts between neurons) in order to KEEP AND PREVENT the emergence of any “NON-USUAL, like themselves” chains. This is done using, for example, a Gamma-aminobutyric acid neuroinhibitor, which blocks the synaptic cleft, preventing an impulse from jumping from one axon or dendrite to another. The total inhibition of any extraordinary dissident chains is developing more and more strongly. Over time, once the lock is released, it begins to devour itself, meaning that the block is superimposed even on some of the old dominant chains.
A MAN IS GETTING SENILE!
Summary:
Since childhood, try to LOVE this interesting, often difficult and “painful” process of honest, real thinking. And do not give it up at any age, right up to death! The way of thinking from childhood already determines whether a person will fall into senility in old age or die as a THINKING PERSON!
The latter should be a goal for each of us!
This is my view on the causes of senile dementia.
If I’m wrong, let my seniors correct me!
