Such a phrase does not “sound” familiar in the mind.
The usual term is: Adrenaline depression.
The meaning is clear: A person is in a tense, stressful state, and the adrenal glands release portions of the hormone and neurotransmitter adrenaline into the blood, which, in particular, causes a contraction of the smooth muscles of the arteries, arterioles and capillaries, increases blood pressure, increases the stroke volume of the heart, causes blood to redistribute in the body …
But for me, on the contrary, small amounts of adrenaline caused by the triggering of an ancient instinct or reflex from animals, our ancestors, caused joy.
Why?
Because it confirmed the hypothesis expressed many years ago about the presence of two unconditional reflexes, which can also be called instincts: the Cave Reflex and the Alertness Reflex.
(See notes with similar titles)
The essence of the hypothesis is simple and easy to grasp:
When a person or animal is in a habitable hole, cave, or house (“My house is My fortress,” as the British say, “My home — My Castle”), we feel in some kind of, even if partially illusory, but security.
However, as soon as we stick our noses out of our “fortress” and go out into the outer space, we need to be constantly on our guard, either a predator will pounce, or a brick will fall on our head, or some other dirty trick will happen… Our body, without our slightest orders, imperceptibly but quite seriously treats a potentially HOSTILE environment and immediately reacts to it with an adrenaline rush, preparing for possible trouble.
In a long–ago article on the tonicity of cranial vessels, I described a similar situation when the slightest stress caused an adrenaline reaction – a contraction of the walls of the blood vessels of the brain.
(“The effect of mild psychological stress on the cranial blood supply.” 12 VII 2020)
But for this, THEN, a simple medical device RHEOEENCEPHALOGRAPH was required, that is, a device that detects changes in the status of tonic tension in the walls of the brain vessels from the outside, without the slightest “invasion” into the body, a recorder and everything else.
It turned out that anyone, being at home, can find out without the slightest effort, doctors and devices, whether he/she has recently been in a state of even mild stress or not?
The only thing required for such a “subtle” analysis of adrenaline in the blood is, forgive me for naturalism, just to pee in a clean, well–washed jar with a wide throat. And carefully look at the reflection of the lamp light in the toilet or from any other light source from the surface of the liquid. If it is clean and reflects light almost mirror-like, THERE WAS NO STRESS!
If some spots of some strange film are found on it, it WAS STRESSFUL.
Adrenaline from the blood enters the kidneys and is excreted in the urine. But this is an INSOLUBLE substance in water, and therefore, being isolated by the body, it creates the thinnest film on the surface of a transparent liquid, sometimes even forming only spots floating on the surface!
So the result of stress is OBVIOUS, that is, on urine!
Those who wish can easily check, because no special chemicals or devices are required here!
Wish to everybody inquisitive and fascinating peeing…!
