WILL THERE BE???
A year and a half ago, purely by chance, I came across an interesting biological effect of the formation of a natural “antifreeze” in drying fruits – propylene glycol.
(The beginning of a whole series of articles on this topic was in the article “Raisins in the freezer” on 5 XI 2024. Then followed a chain of notes with a hypothesis about the synthesis of natural antifreeze in fruits during drying. Then several experiments with extracts from various dried fruits, extracts by pouring dried fruits with boiling water, which froze in the freezer from the beginning, and then DEFROSTED themselves, remaining at minus 15-18 degrees Celsius, and became liquid again! The water gradually evaporated in the form of ice, the concentration of natural antifreeze increased and, finally, the hood became liquid again, quite fluid. Although, of course, not like water, since the concentration of sugar and other substances together with antifreeze (propylene glycol) it also increased.
The proof of the correctness of the hypothesis is obvious!
And yesterday, while reading Walter Sullivan’s rather ordinary book “We are not Alone,” in the chapter “Is there life on Mars?” I saw a couple of phrases on the same topic: A certain proponent of life on Mars argued that if life once arose on Mars under much more favorable conditions in the distant past than the current one, then living beings, let’s say plants, could gradually adapt to the increasingly cold climate on it, PRODUCING NATURAL VEGETABLE ANTIFREEZE!
It’s funny!
So my hypothesis, which began with a childish question about why raisins in ice cream and the freezer do not harden and turn into ice grains, suddenly fluttered out of my freezer and head, WHICH was NOT FROZEN, into a cosmic (or comic?) space, and I found it on Mars, eighty million kilometers from Earth. I found it there unexpectedly, because a hypothesis is an idea, it’s a set of barcodes of a chain of neurons in my brain, and this created exactly the same Temporal Wave that propagates not in space, but instantaneously in time, BUT PERMEATING our three-dimensional space!
Following this purely occasional coincidence about natural antifreeze, a new hypothesis has emerged that natural antifreeze in plants is synthesized not only in fruits that have already been torn from the mother plant, but also in itself! During periods of drought, for example.
And what happens to trees and bushes in winter?
In winter, even in the most severe frosts, according to my hypothesis, the tree DOES NOT FREEZE through, and in it, thanks to the production of antifreeze, liquid juices CONTINUE to circulate through the trunk and branches, supporting their life, albeit in a state close to suspended animation – ANABIOSIS. Antifreeze prevents tree juices from becoming ice crystals from water for the most part, but the ice remains in them in the form of LIQUID CRYSTALS, and therefore the juices can still move like some kind of slightly viscous LIQUID through special conductive channels in the trunk and branches!
Several times, walking along the street, I saw trees with branches broken off by some humanlike creatures, but not completely detached from the trunk (See “Broken twig” 4 IV 2021). In summer, they continued to remain green, but in spring, when the tree “came to life” after a frosty winter, these branches no LONGER CAME to LIFE, but remained dead (they obviously died in the winter frosts).
Why?
Because the broken branch no longer had a sufficiently developed system for supplying it with the necessary juices and substances for life support in the cold! The very place of the fault was too open for low temperatures and the juices froze there, creating an icy crystal plug, and not allowing the forces of life support to preserve it in this sadistically injured branch by evil people!
Another chain of thoughts, albeit sad…
